State Veterinary and Food Administration of the Slovak Republic
Our organization launched two related important projects DATA and eGOV in 2021. The goal was to create a comprehensive veterinary and food information system “KVEPIS” together with a database. Since we live in an era of constant advancement of information technology, digital solutions, the implementation of these projects was a step forward for us. Cooperation with the company TaXaPa s. r. o. was key for the realization. Thanks to the professional, precise leadership and determination of the team members of this company, the projects continued to progress. Of course, no work is without risks and crisis situations, but with the use of experience and the PRINCE 2 methodology, the company Taxapa s. r. o. managed to carry out projects through all phases. DevOps Showcase

At the conclusion of our recent DevOps training, we decided to implement a dedicated solution for smart homes using proprietary hardware and the DigitalOcean cloud as our final project. We developed a terraforming project that implements a complete solution for a designated control set of servers and services, enabling remote control of Teco PLCs with a specific serial number using the DigitalOcean cloud CLI (command line interface) library.
The solution involves using block volume storage to prevent data loss, several virtual machines, and dedicated containers that run Redis, Nginx, and MariaDB. Additionally, it includes third-party repositories with custom code to manage the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) via a web user interface.
The entire setup can be accomplished with a single command, provided you have a DigitalOcean account with a DigitalOcean token, block volume storage created, and Terraform installed locally.To deploy the solution, simply execute the command: `terraform apply` (after running `terraform plan`). The build process takes approximately ten minutes, and once completed, you will receive the public IP address of the control machine where the web user interface is hosted.
What does the future hold?
Recently, we conducted market research on content management systems (CMS) and selected our top choices. We plan to implement a DevOps strategy and develop package solutions for all major cloud providers.

THE PROJECTS eGOV and DATA for ŠVPS SR

In April 2021, the initiation phase of the two projects for ŠVPS SR „the State Veterinary and Food Administration of the SR“ has began. First one, the "Data management of the State Veterinary and Food Administration of the Slovak Republic" (a.k.a. the DATA project) and the second one, the "Improvements of eGov services of the State Veterinary and Food Administration of the SR" (a.k.a. the eGOV project).
The goal of the DATA project was to ensure the build of basic database for the comprehensive veterinary and food information system "KVEPIS." The data managed by ŠVPS SR will be managed systematically, which will contribute to the comprehensive data management of the entire public administration. This means that clear rules and methodologies will be applied for the use and management of data.
The eGOV project was supposed to ensure the implementation of the complex veterinary and food information system "KVEPIS." Overall, the project should contribute to improving all processes monitored and managed within ŠVPS SR, such as the increasing food safety both on the Slovak and European markets, speeding up warning and data exchange processes, reducing the risk of introduction and spread of various animal diseases and to ensure the better handling control with animal by-products. All of these to ameliorate health of consumers as well as the wellfare assurance of farmed animals.
The implementation phase has began at the end of May 2022. Both projects were managed with waterfall methodology, where the projects scopes were defined in advance by feasibility study. Each of the projects was divided into managerial phases and stages, which overlapped with each other. Within the individual stages separate deliveries were delivered. Thanks to the detailed preparation of projects plans and stages, there was a better response to changes that came within the entire implementation period. During all of the phases, possible risks were evaluated and problems arising from approved changes were faced.
Thanks to the professional approach of highly organized project management and project support team, despite these challenges, both projects were completed in February 2024.
Our team from TaXaPa have covered, for both projects, the project management and project support, using Prince2® metodology. Thanks to our determination, precise and professional management and support, both projects were implemented according to the approved schedule. We've developed complete project documentation, managed the project at all levels, managed professionally and flexibly the challenging situations that the changes and issues bring to projects. We provided our customer with a complete package of project services and support.
The work on both projects was very demanding in terms of time and content and required a lot of commitment and effort. Although projects are often full of obstacles and sometimes unpredictable situations arise, we have learned to handle any situation and bring the project to the end.

E-Shop Implementation

E-commerce has increasingly emerged as a digital business method in recent months, particularly during the pandemic. Customers are seeking alternative channels to compensate for their business losses. Purchasing parts from home is becoming the standard for all customers, including those in the truck industry. Establishing an online shop has become essential for companies that want to boost their sales and connect more closely with their customers.
When deciding to implement an online shop, it's crucial to find the right partners who can meet your specific needs regarding requirements, timelines, and budget. At TAXAPA, we can ensure the process is done correctly. We conducted an in-depth market research study for one of our clients by evaluating various online shop providers. When implementing an e-shop, there are three essential pillars to consider:
1. Finding parts and obtaining parts information (using resources like TecDoc or Microcat).
2. Accessing available catalogs, including pricing and availability.
3. Processing orders through systems such as ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) or DMS (Dealer Management System).
Certainly, more players may join the Three Pillars Club, including CRM integration and messaging providers. However, you should never overlook those three pillars, consider that.
In December 2020, our customer, STABO, the largest DAF Trucks dealer in Slovakia, approached us with a request. Our task was to summarize the requirements for an e-shop dedicated to trucks, manage potential risks, gain a better understanding of the technical aspects, and ultimately select the right partner to deliver the e-shop for STABO. This was indeed a challenge, as implementing an e-shop for trucks is a unique project.
At the beginning of 2021, we gathered all customer requirements. In March 2021, we initiated market research, which included reviewing pricing, licensing, and contract preparations. We conducted extensive interviews with potential partners.
By May 2021, we focused on selecting a suitable e-shop provider and began the implementation process. This process involved developing the ERP interface, preparing e-shop data, implementing the catalog, testing, and initial setup. From our perspective, the most significant challenge during implementation was managing the specialized data for trucks.
In September 2021, we successfully launched the first e-shop for trucks in Slovakia. We take pride in having been involved throughout the entire creation process.
